  7.            Follow these few simple tips and you won't go far wrong

  9. * ALWAYS keep your floppy disks write protected this
  10.   very simple precaution can save you many hours/days/weeks of misery
  11.   with viri and corrupted disks.

  13. * NEVER eject a disk from the drive until ALL disk activity has completley
  14.   stopped, not just the drive light, listen to the whirring as well.

  16. * Never plug/unplug peripherals such as drives/printers/modems/cdroms
  17.   while your Amiga is switched on, the manual even tells you not to unplug
  18.   your mouse while the machine is on, that's a bit over the top I think
  19.   but they must know! After all they created the machine!!

  21. * ALWAYS check any new program disks with a good recent Virus Checking
  22.   program BEFORE running them.

  27. * If you have a hard drive have a virus checker running in background
  28.   so it constantly checks memory for viri and checks any disk inserted.

  30. * Give your mouse a clean as soon as it starts to
  31.   drag a bit, this will stop frustration for you and prolong the life
  32.   of your squeaky friend.

  34. * Until you know exactly what you are doing you should NOT use the
  35.   Amiga/Amiga/ctrl keys to do a warm reset.  The main reason for this
  36.   is that if your machine has a virus in memory a warm reset will NOT
  37.   clear it out. Turn off your machine by the power pack and wait at
  38.   least 20 seconds.

  40. * A second disk drive is ESSENTIAL unless you want to go insane.
  41.   You can pick up a second hand one for about £35-£40, but they are rare
  42.   as once you have one you will not want to part with it.

  44. * A hard drive is desirable, especially if you want to program or use other
  45.   creativity tools or if you use Workbench a lot.
  46.   If you do buy a hard drive get the biggest capacity you can afford, and
  47.   I bet that won't be big enough.
